Detecting vortical structures in time-resolved volumetric flow fields

چکیده

The detection of three-dimensional coherent vortical structures that get advected as well deformed with time is a challenge. However, it critical for the statistical analysis these vortices, example, quasi-streamwise vortices (QSVs) in near field turbulent shear layer, where cavitation inception typically occurs. These exhibit underlying correlations among different properties can be derived from velocity gradients. Exploiting correlations, pseudo-Lagrangian vortex method proposed uses k-means clustering based on vorticity magnitude and direction, values λ2, strain rate structure, axial stretching, location. facilitates finding QSVs have pressure minima are lower than those surrounding flow, including primary spanwise vortices. appear after period stretching before contraction events.

Detection and Analysis of Separated Flow Induced Vortical Structures

This study examines the ability to detect the dynamic interactions of vortical structures generated from a Helmholtz instability caused by separation over bluff bodies at large Reynolds number of approximately 104 based on a cross stream characteristic length of the geometry. Accordingly, two configurations, a square cylinder with normally incident flow and a thin airfoil with flow at an angle ...

Correlation of Surface Pressure and Vortical Flow Structures in an Unsteady Separating Flow

Controlling flow in an unsteady separating flow requires accurate information about the surface forces and the effect that vortical structures in the flow field have on those surface forces. A correlation between vortex passage and surface pressure is defined to determine appropriate locations for sensors on the surface of a square cylinder for control feedback. Data are generated using a large...

3-d Least Squares Tracking in Time-resolved Tomographic Reconstruction of Dense Flow Marker Fields

Flow measurement techniques determine velocity vector fields in liquid or gas flows. In fluid mechanics, many methods are based on seeding particles to visualize the flow imaged by an adequate camera system. The tomo-PIV (tomographic particle image velocimetry) technique presented in this paper generates time-resolved volumetric reconstructions of a particle constellation from a limited number ...

Full-field pressure from snapshot and time-resolved volumetric PIV

This paper deals with pressure estimation from snapshot and time-resolved three component (3C) volumetric PIV data using Taylor’s hypothesis, an Eulerian and a pseudo-Lagrangian approach. The Taylor’s hypothesis approach has been shown to provide accurate results for pressure in the case of 3C planar PIV data with an appropriate choice of convection velocity (de Kat and Ganapathisubramani, 2013...

Model flocks in a steady vortical flow.

We modify the standard Vicsek model to clearly distinguish between intrinsic noise due to imperfect alignment between organisms and extrinsic noise due to fluid motion. We then consider the effect of a steady vortical flow, the Taylor-Green vortex, on the dynamics of the flock, for various flow speeds, with a fixed intrinsic particle speed. We pay particular attention to the morphology of the f...
